A hotel and convention center is being born in San Diego thanks to a public-private partnership that will potentially becoming the largest waterfront development on the west coast.
The Chula Vista Bayfront Hotel and Convention Center is expected to begin construction in 2019 following the recent completion of a contractual public-private partnership agreement. The Port of San Diego and the City of Chula Vista partnered with RIDA Development Corp. from Houston, TX to move the $1.1 billion project forward.
It’s not uncommon for public-private partnerships to fund hotel and convention centers. Economically, improved hotels and convention centers increase citywide development by attracting visitors. Louisville, Kentucky is one city currently looking for a partner to expand its existing Expo center.
