When opportunity comes knocking, you’re supposed to take it, and there are plenty of new opportunities for economic growth coming to Kentucky. Two Opportunity Zones have recently been approved for Paducah, elevating the city as a top location for economic investment.
Opportunity Zones are defined by the Economic Innovation Group as a national investment program that connects private investors with low-income communities. Paducah’s proximity to growing transportation infrastructure like the I-69 corridor, education institutions, and business innovation groups makes it ideal for public-private partnerships.
“You can just imagine that in 20 years this place will practically be unrecognizable from what is it today,” said Brian Mefford, Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development’s Office of Entrepreneurship executive director. “The amount of investment, the amount of attention you will have and the attraction to other businesses around the world to locate here … I think it’s phenomenal and exciting.”
